Our story is different from a traditional tourism company. AZERLANKA grew from a lifelong passion for discovering new places, professional experience in sales and business, and a personal journey that began in Sri Lanka and continued in Azerbaijan.
I am a Sri Lankan entrepreneur based in Azerbaijan and the founder of AZERLANKA Travel & Tourism. My journey into tourism did not begin because I was born into a tourism business. It began much earlier, through a personal love of travelling, discovering places and meeting people.
Since childhood, travelling was part of my life. My family regularly took me to different parts of Sri Lanka, and as I grew older I continued exploring with friends through hiking, camping and independent trips. Over time, travelling became more than a holiday for me. It became a way of learning about people, places, food and different ways of life.
Today, I bring that personal passion together with my professional experience in sales, management, computers, business and marketing to create travel experiences that are practical, personal and trustworthy.
My relationship with travel started when I was young in Sri Lanka. My family enjoyed travelling and visiting different parts of the country, and we would often make trips during the year. Those early journeys gave me a natural curiosity about what was around the next road, the next town or the next destination.
When I became older, I started travelling with students and friends. We went hiking, camping and exploring places that were new to us. I enjoyed the adventure, but I also enjoyed the small details: discovering local food, seeing how people live in different areas and finding places that were not always part of a normal tourist route.
For many years I had a personal dream of travelling around the world and discovering new countries. I have always had the feeling that a new place is something to learn from, not something to be afraid of. When I decide to visit somewhere new, I enjoy planning, driving, exploring and learning along the way.
Tourism was not my family's traditional business. My family was involved in the gem and jewellery field, and I also spent time learning and working around that environment. At the same time, I was interested in creative work, computers and learning new skills.
I studied computer-related subjects and continued learning in areas such as English, business and marketing. I have always been the type of person who enjoys learning by doing. When I meet a subject I do not understand, I try to learn it, practise it and find a way to solve the problem.
My professional career later moved strongly into sales. I joined a distributor company representing a well-known international brand in Sri Lanka. I started as a Sales Executive and progressed to Sales Manager and then Area Manager.
That career gave me something extremely valuable for tourism: the opportunity to travel. I was regularly on the road, visiting customers in different cities, towns and villages. I had hundreds of customers to look after and often travelled every day to meet different businesses and develop new areas.
I never saw travelling for work as a burden. I genuinely enjoyed driving, discovering new areas, meeting people and learning what was special about each place. If I travelled to another part of Sri Lanka, I wanted to know what that region was famous for, what food people enjoyed there and what made it different from the places I already knew.
This experience gave me a practical understanding of Sri Lanka that goes beyond simply reading about destinations. I learned how to communicate with different types of people, manage relationships, understand customer expectations, organize my time and take responsibility for the work I was given.
My interest in travel continued outside Sri Lanka as well. I visited other countries and spent extended time exploring places such as India. Travelling through a country and experiencing its different regions strengthened my confidence and my belief that travel should be experienced personally.
I have never wanted fear of the unknown to stop me from exploring. A new destination gives me curiosity rather than fear. That mindset later became very important when I came to Azerbaijan.
When I came to Azerbaijan, my original purpose was connected with other business activities. But after arriving, I naturally started exploring the country. I travelled by car, visited different areas and gradually discovered Azerbaijan for myself.
Over the following months, I explored many parts of the country with friends and independently. I became familiar with different routes, landscapes, attractions, local areas and the character of different destinations.
At the time, I also noticed an important need among international visitors. Many tourists coming to Azerbaijan faced a language barrier. English was often the common language between visitors and local service providers, and travellers needed someone who could communicate clearly and help them move around comfortably.
Because I already had a car, knew English and genuinely enjoyed travelling, some people began asking me if I could take them on tours. At first, it was not a large tourism business. It was simply an opportunity to help visitors while doing something I personally enjoyed.
I discovered that I enjoyed showing Azerbaijan to people. I did not want to make the experience feel like a routine tour where a driver simply stops at a location and waits. I wanted to experience the places together with the travellers.
I would get out of the vehicle, walk with them, explain what I knew, help them take photographs, suggest interesting places and pay attention to their comfort. I tried to treat visitors as I would treat my own family or friends.
The travellers responded positively to this personal approach. They enjoyed the experience, and their trust and recommendations encouraged me to take tourism more seriously.
Gradually, the work developed into a proper tourism operation and eventually into AZERLANKA Travel & Tourism. As the business grew, I developed relationships with drivers, transportation providers, hotels and other local contacts.
My earlier computer and business experience also became useful. I was able to understand online systems and help with hotel-related platforms and digital work, which gave me additional relationships within the hospitality sector.
Today, we can arrange transportation from smaller private vehicles to larger group vehicles, together with hotel accommodation, tour arrangements and other travel services according to the requirements of the traveller.
Sri Lanka is my homeland and the country where my love of travel began. I have personal experience travelling through its different regions, and my professional career also took me across the country.
After building the Azerbaijan side of AZERLANKA, expanding into Sri Lanka was a natural next step. I already understand the country, its destinations and travel environment, and I have relationships and arrangements that allow us to develop Sri Lanka travel services.
Our goal is not simply to sell another destination. We want to use the same approach that built our Azerbaijan operation: honest information, personal attention, practical organization and genuine care for the traveller.
Azerbaijan became an important part of my life because I did not only visit it as a tourist—I explored it personally and built my professional life here. This gives AZERLANKA practical local experience when organizing travel for international visitors.

Sri Lanka is not simply another destination for us. It is my homeland, the place where my interest in travel began and a country I have explored extensively.
